Road trip: one week in Mauritius

Discover the authentic Mauritius, away from the beautiful honeymoon resorts with my 7-day road trip journey.

Day 1: Airport to La Gaulette

  • Rent a car from the airport (try to survive the exit if you are driving on the other side of the road for the first time!)  – I got a good price from First car rental
  • Have lunch at Chez Rosy
  • Drive to Souillac to walk along the Gris Gris beach until the Roche qui pleure
  • Take a look at the Rochester falls
  • Visit the Seashells museum
  • Eat a delicious curry Chez Meille
  • Have a cocktail from Enso

Day 2 : La Gaulette – Flic en Flac via Le Morne

  • Climb Le Morne in the morning (beware: the top is very difficult to reach!)
  • Have lunch in Le Chamarel restaurant
  • Visit the waterfall and the seven colours of Chamarel
  • Admire the view on the Black River Gorges
  • Feel the spirituality in Grand Bassin
  • Eat thai in Flic en Flac at Sawasdee
  • Sleep at Aux plaisirs de la vie

Day 3: Tamarind falls

  • Explore the seven Tamarind falls. It is super recommended to have a guide. You won’t be able to see all the waterfalls on your own! I recommend Freddy from Motrek adventures. Swim, jump and have a nice lunch before you sweat walking back up!
  • Rest at the Flic en Flac beach until sunset
  • Eat fish from Le Bougainville
  • Have a drink at Mosaic

Day 4: From Flic en Flac to Trou d’Eau douce

  • Have breakfast in the Caudan Waterfront
  • Visit the Aapravasi Ghat World Heritage Site and the Intercontinental Slave Museum
  • Eat at La Cantine de Beau Plan
  • Taste honey, rhum and sugar and discover Mauritius’s history at l’Aventure du Sucre
  • Sleep in La Koquilishe
  • Eat a bol renversé from Sous le Manguier

Day 5: Île aux Cerfs

  • Full day excursion: snorkeling and beach time at the Ile aux Cerfs with Tiny Boats

Day 6: From Trou d’Eau Douce to Blue bay

Day 7: Blue Bay

  • Morning walk in Pont Naturel and Le Souffleur
  • Afternoon excursion to Ile aux Aigrettes with the Mauritius Wildlife foundation to discover turtles, pink pigeons, geckos
  • Beach time at La Pointe d’Esny
  • Burger from Esco
  • Drink at Le Spot Café

It’s your time to enjoy Mauritius!

  1. I loved reading about your road trip in Mauritius! As a local, I can totally relate to how easy it is to navigate the island and discover its hidden gems. The diversity in landscapes from the beaches to the mountains is truly something special here. It’s great to see you enjoyed exploring places like Chamarel and Le Morne, which are some of our most stunning spots. Hope you come back soon to discover even more of what Mauritius has to offer
